Microneedling is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that uses fine needles to create tiny punctures in the skin. This triggers the body’s natural healing process, stimulating collagen and elastin production to improve texture, tone, and firmness.
What skin concerns can microneedling treat?
Microneedling is effective for reducing fine lines and wrinkles, and can improve acne scars, surgical scars, burn scars, stretch marks, hyperpigmentation, and uneven skin tone or texture. It can also enhance the absorption of topical skincare products. At the Minster Clinic, microneedling is used as a standalone rejuvenation treatment , or in combination with other modalities depending on the issues that need treating.
How does microneedling work?
A medical-grade device creates controlled micro-injuries in the skin. These stimulate cell renewal and the production of collagen and elastin, gradually remodelling the skin for a smoother, firmer, and more youthful appearance.
Does microneedling hurt?
To minimize discomfort, a topical numbing cream may be applied before treatment depending on patient discomfort thresholds. Most patients report feeling only mild pressure or a prickling sensation during the procedure.
What should I expect after the procedure?
Following microneedling, your skin may appear slightly red or feel sensitive, similar to mild sunburn. These effects usually subside within a day or two. You’ll be advised to use gentle skincare, keep the skin hydrated, apply sun protection, and avoid makeup for 1–2 days.
When will I see results?
Initial improvements may be noticeable within a few weeks, but collagen remodelling continues over several months. For optimal results, a series of treatments is often recommended.
How often should I have the treatment?
Treatment frequency depends on the concern being addressed. For general skin rejuvenation, sessions are often scheduled every 4–6 weeks. More intensive concerns, such as acne scarring or deeper wrinkles, may require a series of 3–6 treatments spaced about a month apart. Maintenance sessions are typically recommended once or twice a year to sustain results.
