Moles can be removed in a variety of ways. The mainstay of treatment is either surgical removal or laser removal under a local anaesthetic. Moles that protrude from the skin are best removed by a technique called a shave excision. This involves the use of a dermablade to remove the mole flush with the skin’s surface, which leaves a small shallow wound that is cauterised with an electrical current to stop any bleeding. Laser excision can also be used. No stitches are required and the wound heals over the course of 10-14 days like a graze would heal, leaving an area of new skin which is in keeping with the existing contour of the skin.
For flat moles, the preferred option is a formal excision with stitches.
We firmly believe in safety first, and our policy is to include histological testing of all moles we remove, regardless of the method used , to ensure that all cells in the sample are healthy. This will give you peace of mind. At The Minster Clinic we pride ourselves in ensuring the best cosmetic result with minimal scaring.

Having lived with a mole on the side of my head for many years has been both annoying and ugly. I have spoken to many clinics along the way and found it difficult to understand both the treatment and associated costs. I met with Dr Daniel at The Minster Clinic and he fully explained the procedure, aftercare and tests involved. I was made to feel at ease and within an hour the mole was off. I left the clinic with a pamphlet complete with full information on aftercare as well as points of contact should I need it. I would highly recommend The Minster Clinic and Dr Daniel for their professionalism and patient care.

Having lived all over the UK and amassing over 40 years of clinical experience between them treating patients in the NHS, Daniel and Sarah felt it was time to move back to the North to be nearer family. They both had a vision of bringing their medical and surgical skills to the fore by providing quality healthcare in the field of Cosmetic Dermatology to the city of York and surrounding areas. They both believe passionately in Doctor-led care, clinical responsibility and accountability and the rights of patients to be treated in a safe, relaxing environment. Hence in 2018, The Minster Clinic was born. The name was chosen to signify their commitment to the beautiful city of York and its iconic and magnificent Minster which dominates the skyline and is a sight to behold even on the greyest of days!
